Making a difference on the island of Nevis
Nisbet Plantation is committed to being a good steward of Nevis island,
preserving its environment and helping the community.
We have adopted local Nevis schools, filling library shelves with children’s books,
providing computers and much more. The efforts of our resort, staff and guests have
had a major impact on the lives of elementary school children on Nevis island.
In December 2009, Nisbet Plantation presented the largest book donation in the program’s
history thanks to the efforts of one guest. Jan Owens, a professor at Carthage College
in Kenosha, Wisconsin, organized a book drive that collected 20 cases of books!
Today, the children are reading at a level two grades higher than they were in 1999 when
the program began. However, the Nevis island schools are still very much in need.
How you can help
Basic school supplies like construction paper, glue sticks, crayons, flash cards, play dough and puzzles are always welcome. In addition, the science lab needs everything from filter paper and rain gauges to anatomy models and science video cassettes.
Language, grammar, and math textbooks, as well as story books are always needed. Levels K-6 and all ethnicities are appreciated. Help us reach our goal of raising at least 25 books each month in 2015.
For more significant donations and equipment needs, please contact us at 869-469-9325.
To help, bring supplies with you to Nisbet Plantation or mail them to Florida (see below)
where they will be shipped to us. Be sure to use a book rate when shipping to save!
